The goal of Fire Prevention Bureau is to protect the lives and property of the residents of the Fairview Fire District through public education and code enforcement.

The Fire Prevention Bureau strives to reach its goals through many avenues. For example,

bulletPublic Education Programs:

 1.  Safety and career presentations in public and private schools.

 2.  Safety talks in private sector businesses as well as community organizations.

 3.  Special projects such as the "Safety Trailer", the "Learn Not to Burn" Program, and a children's puppet show.

 4.  Assisting with establishment and practice of emergency evacuation procedures.

bulletInspection and Code Enforcement:

 1.  Plans review of occupancies, new sprinkler systems, fire alarms, etc.

 2.  Inspections for verification of code compliance items in homes, businesses, schools, nursing homes, etc.

 3.  Investigation of citizens complaints.

Fire Prevention

Perhaps more important than fire fighting itself in many modern industrial countries is fire prevention. Firefighters are trained in basic fire prevention methods, and fire companies are assigned inspection districts in which they attempt to prevent or correct unsafe conditions. Fire departments are charged with enforcement of the local fire prevention code and the State of New York fire laws and regulations.

All commercial or multiple-dwelling buildings are inspected at regular intervals, and orders are issued for the correction of violations of fire laws. If necessary, court action is taken to compel compliance.
